Brookmont Stage 9: Sewer Pump Station

Posted on 29 October 2024

Working alongside Greenhill Engineers and TCM Nominees, Global Water developed a sewerage pump station for the Brookmont Stage 9 housing

development. As the project was in its early stages and lacked an available power supply, the site presented unique logistical challenges. This case study showcases how Global Water’s Envirolift concrete pump station provided an efficient and reliable solution, meeting the demands of the evolving site.SA Water Envirolift with Safety Grate

Project overview

Global Water collaborated with Greenhill Engineers and TCM Nominees to design, supply, and install an SA Water sewer pump station and temporary tankering system for Brookmont Stage 9, the latest housing development in northern Adelaide.

The Challenges

The project faced two main challenges:

  • The required gravity trunk main had not yet been constructed, impacting the overall project timeline and requiring a temporary tankering solution. This is because the trunk that needed to transport sewage to the Bolivar Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) had yet to be built.

  • There was no power available at the pump station site, with further delays expected in connecting to the grid.

the solution

To address these challenges, we proposed an SA Water-approved Envirolift Pump Station. This system is adaptable for use as both a temporary tankering solution in the short term and a permanent primary pump station. Once the pumping main is constructed in Stage 10 and the SA Water trunk main to Bolivar WWTP is completed at a later stage, then the Envirolift will serve as the permanent primary pump station.

We customised the SA Water Pump Station Controller to function as a solar-powered tank level monitoring system during the interim phase—until permanent power is available and infrastructure allows for conversion to a full pump station. Additionally, we secured and stored the necessary pumps, accessories, and controllers, which may not be needed for another 3–5 years, to lock in current pricing for the client.

the results

The Envirolift was the first choice due to having reduced installation costs, a strong reputation for service in SA along with the WSAA regulatory approvals. Global Water will continue to work with our client, and various stakeholders to install and commission this tankering/pump station through the building process and DLP period, to ensure the smooth transition from us to the eventual owner.
