Car wash wastewater: High water table solution

Posted on 19 July 2024

Global Water worked alongside Dynamic Commercial Plumbing and Partek Construction & Interiors to tackle wastewater management challenges at the new Glenelg BMW dealership. The site faced issues with a high water table and the need to store 50% of the daily car wash wastewater for re-use. This case study highlights how Global Water’s 23,000L DrainAce concrete pump station provided an effective, cost-saving solution by enabling the client to re-use the stored water and reduce operational costs.

Project overview

Global Water has partnered with Dynamic Commercial Plumbing, a local and trusted Plumbing company with over 20 years of experience, since 2022. Partek Construction & Interiors, one of South Australia’s leading builders with 34 years in the industry, also joined the project. We have recently supplied storage for 50% of the daily car wash water waste by putting our 23,000L DrainAce Concrete pump station into action.

The Challenges

The Glenelg BMW dealership project required a system to store at least 50% of the dealership’s daily car wash wastewater for re-use, helping to reduce operational costs. The site also faced a high water table, which posed challenges during installation. While an Envirolift Concrete Pump Station was initially considered due to its ability to handle deep excavations of up to 15 meters, its depth would have resulted in high dewatering costs due to the site's water table conditions.

the solution

To address these challenges, we proposed a 23,000L DrainAce concrete pump station, which could store 50% of the car wash wastewater for re-use. This solution matched the storage capacity of the Envirolift but featured a wider diameter and a shallower depth, making it a better fit for the high water table conditions on-site.

the results

With the DrainAce concrete pump station in place, the dealership effectively overcame high water table challenges while meeting its storage needs for wastewater re-use. The shallower depth minimised excavation work and installation costs. Most importantly, the ability to re-use the stored water helped the dealership lower their water-related operational costs, making the solution both practical and cost-effective in the long run.

"The support and technical knowledge provided by Global Water to assist in executing the successful design and supply of this pump station was what Dynamic Commercial Plumbing look for when proposing such plant and equipment to our valued clients and stakeholders. Thank you Global Water." Dynamic Commercial Plumbing
