Car wash wastewater: High water table solution

Posted on 19 July 2024

Global Water collaborated with Dynamic Commercial Plumbing and Partek Construction & Interiors on a wastewater management project for a new Glenelg BMW dealership. The site presented challenges due to a high water table and the need to store 50% of daily car wash wastewater. This case study outlines how Global Water's DrainAce concrete pump station provided a practical and cost-effective solution to these issues.

Project overview

Global Water has been working with Dynamic Commercial Plumbing, a local and trusted Plumbing and Gas company with over 20 years of experience, since 2022. Partek Construction & Interiors, one of the leading builders in SA with 34 years in the industry, also partnered with Dynamic Commercial Plumbing on this project. We have recently supplied storage for 50% of the daily car wash water waste by putting our 23,000L DrainAce Concrete pump station into action.

The Challenges

Global Water was approached by Dynamic Commercial Plumbing to provide a wastewater pump station solution for a new Glenelg BMW dealership. The pump station solution needed to store at least 50% of the average daily car wash usage while addressing high water table problems on-site. At first, an Envirolift Concrete Pump Station was proposed due to initial technical specifications and the fact that it is approved to suit excavations up to 15 metres deep. However, its significant depth posed a challenge, leading to high dewatering costs at time of install due to the site's high-water table.

the solution

To overcome these challenges, a 23,000L DrainAce concrete pump station was calculated to accommodate 50% of the dealership’s daily car wash usage. This alternative product matched the storage capacity of the Envirolift but featured a wider diameter, providing high water table solutions with its shallower depth, crucial for the site’s conditions.

the results

By opting for the DrainAce concrete wastewater pump station, high water table drainage solutions were effectively provided, minimising excavation depth and the associated on-site installation costs. This solution not only met the client’s storage requirements but also proved to be a more practical and cost-effective choice.

"The support and technical knowledge provided by Global Water to assist in executing the successful design and supply of this pump station was what Dynamic Commercial Plumbing look for when proposing such plant and equipment to our valued clients and stakeholders. Thank you Global Water." Dynamic Commercial Plumbing
